Zircon Gemstone

Zircon is perhaps the most misunderstood of all gemstones. Unfortunately due to the similarity of zircon's name to the diamond simulant cubic zirconia, many people don't realize that zircon is a beautiful, naturally occurring stone with its own merits. It has been a less-expensive stand-in for many gems throughout history, including diamond and topaz, even though zircon has tremendous fire and a dispersion rate nearly as high as diamond and much higher than other gems.

Care

Blue and colorless zircons are almost always heat treated. For this reason, high heat and prolonged exposure to bright light should be avoided to prevent changing the stone's color. Harsh abrasives should also be avoided, as zircon can be brittle or easily abraded. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners could be risky for zircon. Warm soapy water and a very soft brush are ideal for cleaning zircon.

Color

Zircon occurs in a rainbow of rich hues, including blue, green, brown, red and pink, brownish golds and yellow, as well as colorless. Increasingly rare honey-colored zircon from Cambodia is primarily the only zircon that can be heated to blue.

Value

Like most colored stones, zircon's value is primarily determined by its intensity and saturation of color, all other factors being equal. Beyond that, size and clarity play an important role. Most gem zircons are eye-clean. Blue and colorless zircons are considered type I gems, meaning they are almost always eye clean with no inclusions. Other colors of zircon are type II; they can show eye-visible inclusions, but they don't take away from the stone's beauty. Because blue zircons are in higher demand, they are usually more expensive than other zircons.

Color:  Jacinth gemstones can be the palest of yellow- oranges right through to the deepest lustrous reds. They also come in an almost brown-like citrine.
Varieties:  Jacinth is the orange variety of Zircon. It can be transparent red, orange, and yellow colors. Zircon gemstone are also found in blue and called  Starlite or Siam Zircon, while the third variety is known as Ceylon or Matura diamond which is colorless.
Birthstone:  There are many theories about the origins of birthstones, one of which is from the gemstones from Aaron´s breastplate in Exodus.  Jacinth is listed as the seventh gemstone. Since the zodiac starts its cycle in April, along with turquoise is it considered to be the birthstone of Scorpio and Sagittarius in the eleventh month, November.
Wedding Anniversary:  Jacinth or Zircon semiprecious stones are the traditional gifts to be given for the 19th wedding anniversary, as is Bronz.
The Healing Qualities of Jacinth Stone:  Jacinth is believed to instill peaceful sleep and ward of nightmares. It cleanses the stomach and releases the clenches of poison.  It calms indigestion.
Types of Jacinth Used for Healing:  It may be of use to know that the more red colored semi precious stones would come under the healing properties of the Sun, so that would be energy generally. In particular oedema, digestion and poor circulation are invigorated by sun energy.

The History of Jacinth Stones:  It is known that Zircon has been used for many thousands of years in jewelry – and weaponry.  It is cited in two of the most important passages in the bible as a “jewel of wondrous status.”  In the book of Exodus, God told Moses his brother Aaron was to be High Priest and described a tunic that was to be made “For Beauty and Glory”. The breastplate was inlaid with 12 stones, one to represent each of the 12 tribes of Israel in the order of their birth. Jacinth was the 7th stone attributed to Ephraim.
Later in Revelations a passage describes the Jacinth as being one of the Foundation stones of the New Temple of Jerusalem in Heaven.
The Name’s Origin:  Jacinth comes from the word Hyacinth, named after the deep blue color of the flowers. Jacinth comes in so many colors that jeweler´s decided that they had to choose just the one orange colored zircon to use.
Care and Treatment:  Given its psychical vibrations, keep your gemstone in a dark velvet pouch. To wash, hold it under a cool running tap for several minutes.  It has a hardness score of just 7, which means that it can chip quite easily so care should be taken when handling.  Try to choose settings where the stone is protected.
Jacinth Around the World:  Jacinth is fairly common being igneous sedimentary rock and gems are often found in the gravel deposits of streams and on sandy beaches.  It is mined in Africa and Asia. A large reserve was found in Australia in 2004 which has a particular fine grade of the stone.  It is also found in Europe and in large amounts in Scandinavia especially Norway.

The prophet replied Akeek (cornelian), as this red stone had accepted the Oneness of Allah, the Prophet hood of the lat Prophet, and the vicegerency of Ali ibne Abi Talib.

Imam Ali ibn Abi Taleb has said wear Akeek on your rings, you will be blessed and will be saved from afflictions.

Imam Jaffar e Sadiq has said that a prayer with Akeek is 40 times better than one without.

Imam Musa e Kazim said that it’s a great sawab to use tasbih of Akeek.

Imam Muhammad Taqi stated that Akeek takes away poverty and dissolves differences in ones heart.  

Imam Muhammad Baqar has stated that if a person possesses a ring set in Akeek and turns in towards his palm and then looks at it, and recites Surah Qadr (chapter 97), then Allah keeps him protected the whole day from trouble, wherever they are descended from heaven or earth and he will be protected until the evening by Allah, and Allah’s friend who will guide him.  

 Imam Reza has said “Whoever wears a ring with an Akeek on it, firstly he will not become needy and secondly what God has destined for him, will be good.”

Benitoite Gemstone

Benitoite is the quintessential American gemstone. Gem quality specimens are mined nowhere in the world except in San Benito County, California. Adopted as the California State gemstone, it is a favorite with collectors who admire its beautiful blue body color and its dispersion (.044) equal to diamond.
... Dispersion has the potential to cause stones to twinkle with flashes of red and green, although there is a trade-off between dispersion and body color. Some admirers are willing to forgo the dispersive display to get a darker blue stone, while others admire a lighter stone in which dispersion is more evident. The stone in the picutre shows a balance between rich body color and visible dispersion.
... At hardness 6.5 it is tough enough for most jewelry applications. Its scarcity, however, makes it virtually unknown to the general public. The flattened triangular crystals are usually small and highly dichroic showing blue and colorless. Obtaining the blue color usually means orienting the crystal for lesser yield. Finished gems are almost always under 1 carat and usually less than .5 carat. No treatments or enhancements are known for Benitoite. It is truly one of the most beautiful (and wearable) of the collector gems.

Value

...This gem is quite expensive, especially for rich blue, clean stones at carat and above sizes. Clarity enhances value, especially in stones eye clean or better. Very light and very dark stones are on the lower end of the value spectrum with medium dark stones at the pinnacle. Perfection of cut is sometimes sacrified, even by the custom cutter, to achieve the largest possible gem so windows and less than optimal proportions are fairly common.

Amber Gemstone

Amber is the color of liquid sunshine...yellow for the midday sun, and orange, for the fiery sunsets. It was one of the first stones or substances to be used by very early humans in Asia, Africa and Europe for amulets and decoration.
The two main sources of amber on the market today are the Baltic states and the Dominican Republic. Amber from the Baltic states is older, and therefore preferred on the market, but amber from the Dominican Republic is more likely to have insect inclusions. Prices of amber can range from $20 to $40,000 or more.

It is commonly known that amber is the fossilized resin of trees. Most of all amber is golden yellow to golden orange, but there have been found specimens in green, red, violet and black as well.

Transparent to translucent is usually occurs as nodules or small, irregularly shaped masses with a cracked and weathered surface.

Is is also possible for amber to contain insects that have been trapped millions of years ago while the resin was still sticky. It is quite rare that frogs, toads and even lizards have been found preserved as well.

Amber is one of the few stone that can be charged with electricity. When rubbed, amber produces a negative electrical charge that may attract dust. "Ambroid" is formed by heating and pressing together smaller pieces of amber.

The gem world divides amber into specific groups, which include:

• Succinite (Baltic Amber)
• Burmite (Burmese Amber)
• Simetite (Sicilian Amber)

The last three are the rarer forms and sources of this substance.

Azurite Gemstone

Azurite is an azure blue copper mineral, it is occasionally found as prismatic crystals, but is rarely ever faceted. More often it is found in massive form inter-grown with Malachite as a result of the weathering and oxidation of copper sulfide minerals.

Rock Lore & Tidbits: Selenite is a variety of gypsum. which is readily cleaved into natural wands or sheets. It is a very soft stone which can be scratched easily with a fingernail. It is also somewhat flexible and can be bent with gentle pressure, which is why it is sometimes found in curls called ram's horn formations. It is also called Satin Spar at times, though this term is also used for a type of calcite.
The name selenite comes from the Greek word Selene, meaning moon. It has been used for window panes, such as those in Santa Sabina in Rome. The giant crystals in the Naica Cave of Crystals are Selenite Gypsum.

I use selenite logs and slabs extensively to clear and charge other crystals and stones. There is always a piece of selenite nearby with other stones resting on it. I personally prefer this over clusters of quartz or amethyst, though this may be because I have strong ties to the moon. It would certainly work for people with ties to other celestial bodies, though.
When I say that selenite is related to fertility, it's good to remember that this includes creative fertility of all kinds. Until  I knew about the fertility energies, I thought it was a little odd that it felt so appropriate to keep a selenite log on my jewelry desk and often work with it sitting on my leg.  It felt, right, though, so I went with it, only to find later that it made perfect sense.
